Yacht Design

To meet the shipyard’s requests, the design focused on evolving the two souls of Italia Yachts, Bellissima and Fuoriserie, into a form that could fully represent the distinctive characteristics of the brand. The hull will be tapered designed to have a slender and elegant line, to charm you while sailing. Those who choose an Italia Yachts today expect something more in terms of performance and this project will not betray the expectations of the most demanding owners, while cruising or racing in the most competitive regattas.

The hull is technologically advanced, with optical fibers lamination, thanks to the collaboration with B&G, Volvo and Allspar and some of the most advanced research centers in the infusion lamination sector.

Italia Yacht 20.98 will be a “green boat” in terms of reduced consumption and equipped (optional) with a lifting keel for navigation on different waters.

Brilliant performance in light winds and pure fun in steering IY 20.98 thanks to the new sail plan, while the geometry of the hull guarantees advanced stability and absolute safety in case of high winds, that distinguishes the Italia Yachts range.

Naval architecture

Particular attention was paid to underway comfort, with the aim of ensuring a smooth passage through the waves both under sail — when the yacht is typically heeled — and under power, when sailing into head seas while maintaining high average speeds. To achieve this, we opted for a hull combining very fine, easily driven lines with V-shaped forward sections and volumes distributed evenly along the hull. The result is a truly “water-friendly” design, delivering excellent performance, naturally in keeping with the DNA of the Italia Yachts range, while providing the owner with a yacht capable of competing at a high level in the Maxi and Mini Maxi racing circuits.

The sail plan is sized to ensure excellent performance even in light winds. The standard mainsail features a semi-square top with a single backstay, while the headsail configuration can be customized according to the intended use, both for upwind sailing and, above all, for reaching and downwind conditions. Up to three headsails — including Code sails and a staysail — can be carried, set from the bow and bowsprit.

For the appendages, two options are available: a fixed keel with a 3.80 m draft and a telescopic keel with a variable draft from 2.80 to 4.50 m.

Structure

The Italia Yachts 20.98 features infusion-moulded construction using multiaxial glass fibers and hybrid glass-carbon fabrics in the most highly loaded areas. The primarily carbon-fiber structural components will be built in situ and will follow the construction principles typically used for Maxi racing yachts.

The project was developed using extensively parametric software to integrate the structural and systems engineering, together with finite element analysis (FEA) for the structural design, both of the composite structure itself and for optimizing the rigging attachment points.

Interiors

The interiors are the result of ergonomics and design studies that match the use of new high standards materials with the utmost attention to weight to create a luxury style spaces on board. Another interesting news concerns the layout which can be customized , also by mixing the options already provided: one of these sees the creation of a kitchen-living room, usually used in larger boats and a reserved crew area, aft.
